From go-to favourites to ‘new-to-me makeup’, this post looks at some beautiful complextion products.
This post features two of my go-to makeup products that I have repurchased (couldn’t recommend both enough!) and some new products I wanted to try out. Hear my thoughts below.
BAREMINERALS COMPLEXION RESCUE TINTED HYDRATING GEL CREAM ($44)
I’ve lost count of the amount of times I have re-purchased this product (I think I’m on bottle number 5). This is one of my staple face products as it just has a lovely texture, finish and coverage to it. The shade I re-purchased here is 02-Vanilla but I also have the shade 05-Natural in my collection for days when I want a more bronzed complexion. I absolutely love mixing this product with my Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum as it turns it into the perfect colour for my face and bumps up the coverage to where it looks more like a foundation. I also mix this tinted gel in with other foundations. This product lasts a long time on the skin as I’ve worn it from 7am-9pm with it looking great!
The only thing I recommend with this product is to apply it differently to your high-coverage foundations. The first time I used it, I applied a large amount and went in straight with my Beauty Blender sponge and it looked horrible throughout the day! Instead, I use just over a pea-size amount and blend it into my face with my fingers. I then go in with my Beauty Blender to make sure its all blended seamlessly into my skin (as it can be a little streaky with just your fingers). This gives me the perfect application every time. Highly recommend!

Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face Superscreen SPF 50+
This is another ‘holy grail’ product I rave about and have lost count of the amount of times I’ve repurchased. It’s a lovely sunscreen (50+ protection!) that I also double as a matte primer underneath makeup. I wear this on a daily basis to protect my skin from the sun and it does such a great job sitting under my other makeup products. It comes out as a light pink cream that blends out to be traceless. Another product I can’t recommend enough!
FIRST AID BEAUTY BENDY AVOCADO CONCEALER ($35)
I’ve heard so many Canadian and American beauty influencers rave about this product so when I finally saw it stocked in Sephora I wanted to try it myself! For some reason I can’t find it on Sephora’s website but I bought it in the Sydney Pitt St store, hopefully it’s brought online soon!
First Impressions
The colour range is not great with these concealers and I struggled to find one that had the right undertone and colour to suit my skin tone. I settled for shade 2 and whilst it’s a bit more yellow/orange that what I would usually go for, it still looks good on my skin. I’ve used this mostly under my eyes and it’s a lovely formula! It’s not too full coverage and has almost a dewy finish to it, but I always set my under-eyes with powder so this doesn’t affect me. It wears really nicely and I see it becoming a go to for my under-eye area, just not so much the rest of my face and it’s not the right colour and coverage for spot concealing.
KATE SOMERVILLE DETOX DAILY CLEANSER ($52)
Since December, I’ve been having some tough acne breakouts, practically around my chin area (a common hormonal zone for adults) that I’ve really grown tired of. I wanted to find a cleanser that contained salicylic acid as I heard it helps in calming and reducing breakouts. This was one of two products in Mecca that had this ingredient and after quickly looking it up to see if it had good reviews (it did), I bought it. This cleaner has other powerhouse ingredients in it such as phytic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid but I’m not going to pretend to know what those do. All I know is that this cleanser promises to exfoliate, gently remove dead skin skins and impurities and reveal younger-looking skin…and I’m really hoping that it delivers!
First Impressions
I have been using this cleanser for a good few weeks now and I want to say I have been seeing a slight difference. I use it in the mornings before moisturising (this is a new resolution of mine as cleansing in the morning does make a difference), massaging it thoroughly before rinsing it off with my Face Halo. I love love love the scent of this yellowy gel cleanser as to me it smells like Lemon Lime & Bitters, my favourite drink! Whilst I’ve still had a few breakouts since, I feel that this is helping in keeping my skin clean,, so fingers crossed this keeps on working and my breakouts reduce. The only thing I don’t love about this product is the packaging as it has a twisty lid that allows the cleanser to squeezed out from the bottom. I find it a bit unhygienic as when you stand it up on your counter, bacteria can easily find it’s way inside. I’ve also already had it leak as I accidentally didn’t wind it back up properly so that wasn’t great. I therefore keep it stored on top of a tray in my vanity.
